FINTECH2027
International Fintech Research Conference
Finance, Technology, Methodologies
28-29 January 2027
Marco Biagi Department of Economics, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
The International Fintech Research Conference – Finance, Technology, Methodologies is the annual initiative promoted by the Fintech Research Network, a network of scholars active in the different fields of financial technology. Established to provide a multidisciplinary forum for discussion, the Conference brings together expertise in finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, and data analysis. Since its first edition, the program has combined keynote lectures, scientific sessions, and networking opportunities, fostering collaboration among academics, early-career researchers, financial institutions, and industry professionals. The Network also promotes seminars, workshops, schools, and research projects focusing on the evolution of FinTech. Since its first edition, hosted by Politecnico di Milano in 2022, the International Fintech Research Conference has developed as an itinerant event, progressively involving several Italian universities and expanding its scientific network. The second edition was held in 2023 at the University of Naples Parthenope, continuing the multidisciplinary debate on the main developments in technology applied to finance. In 2025, the Conference was hosted by the University of Perugia, further strengthening its national and international reach. The fourth edition, organized in 2026 by the University of Pavia, expanded the program through international keynote lectures, sessions devoted to artificial intelligence, machine learning, decentralized finance, quantum computing, and sustainable finance, as well as an award for early-career researchers.
In 2027, FINTECH2027 will be held in Modena for the first time, at the Department of Economics Marco Biagi of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The Conference will form part of UNIMORE’s research activities in quantitative finance, artificial intelligence, sustainability, risk management, and financial innovation. The fifth edition will represent a new stage in the Conference’s continuing development, based on collaboration among universities, researchers, financial institutions, and companies interested in the evolution of FinTech.
FINTECH2027 will welcome theoretical and applied contributions covering the main areas of technological innovation in finance. The program will include research on artificial intelligence and machine learning, cryptocurrencies, digital currencies and decentralized finance, blockchain, smart contracts, and digital lending. Particular attention will also be devoted to the use of big data, text analysis, and network analysis, as well as to cybersecurity, data protection, and technology-related regulation. The Conference will further include contributions on risk management, new technologies applied to credit, sustainable finance, climate risk, and the most recent applications of quantum computing in finance. Two days connecting scientific research, financial innovation, businesses, and the local community. The event is not simply another edition of an established scientific conference. It is also an opportunity to make Modena, for two days, an international meeting point for discussing the changes that are transforming finance. The Conference aims to bring together cutting-edge research, technological innovation, and professional expertise, encouraging the development of new ideas, collaborations, and knowledge networks.
